My name is Juan Luis Castellanos and I am the Aftercare Program Coordinator at High Tech Elementary and Middle North County. This will be my 5th year with the organization, having previously spent 3 years as an Academic Coach in both Kindergarten and 4th grade. The driving force behind my work in the organization has been and will always be to work with students, families, and colleagues to co-create a learning community that is rooted in radical love, liberation, and social justice. Me and my three sisters grew up in Carson, CA in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. We were raised by two loving, hard-working parents who left behind their homes and families in Mxc3xa9xico to give us a chance at a life with more opportunity. I earned my B.A. in Sociocultural Linguistics and minored in Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have recently completed post-baccalaureate work at California State University, San Marcos and plan to apply to their M.S. program in Speech-Language Pathology. In the future, I hope to provide speech & language therapy for individuals with neurological disorders and traumatic brain injuries and I would eventually like to extend my academic work to include doctoral study. During my free time, I love to: visit friends & family in Los Angeles and San Francisco, spend time with my five nieces and nephew, go to shows/concerts, play softball, listen to and create music, go to Disneyland, and READ. I also enjoy studying & researching different languages–I am fluent in English & Spanish, studied French for 3 years, studied Farsi for 1 year, and am currently independently learning Nahuatl. I am committed to applying a critical lens in my personal and professional life so that I may work to resist and dismantle oppressive ideologies, practices, and systems in order to co-construct a better future for youth.
