RaShad was raised in Winston- Salem , North Carolina, then moved to Chicago in 5th grade. He attended high school in a suburb called Naperville, then attended the University of Iowa, majoring in Art History. After graduation RaShad then began teaching in special education classrooms and discovered his passion for working with students with special needs. He worked for a private therapeutic day school in chicago offering acute group psychiatric therapy and educational services to special education students. After having his son in 2011 with his wife Martha, they decided to leave the cold Chicago winters and move to San Diego in 2013. RaShad was an Educational Specialist intern at Albert Einstein Middle school for 2 years, then recently completed two years at NewBridge school in Poway, teaching students with dyslexia using the Orton-Gilliangham teaching method. Currently RaShad is student-teaching to obtain his Mild/Mod Special Education degree and Multiple Subject Certification from Western Governors University. RaShad is an avid martial artist. He has a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido and has competed professionally in combat sports since 2005. Currently, he teaches boxing, kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts at a gym in North Park. A huge football fan (Go Bears!) RaShad, coaches his son Trent’s flag football team . When he is not working, RaShad enjoys listening to reggae, cooking North Carolina style barbeque, traveling with his family, saltwater fishing, and laying in his hammock.
